PHOTO RESPONSIBILITY…

Ok, I have a question… Do I have a responsibility to run photos by friends and family before I keep them in a personal album, or save them on my computer?

Recently I celebrated a big birthday. I took a lot of photos. I have iPhoto, so was very sensitive to cropping for best angle, etc- cutting out that big white forefront upper arm, trimming seemingly out of proportion calves from the bottom of photos… I certainly did not include anything that was not true to the person due to funky filming.

When I shared my book with two particular friends, they declared that I had to remove and/or delete photos they did not deem flattering. I would have no book or files left! Having Photo Booth, I frequently catch myself from different angles, and have come to realize that what I see full frontal in the mirror after primping is not how most people see me most of the time. It’s true! We have bad angles. We have flab that shows when we turn a certain way. We have double chins at times. Get over it! Seriously. And if it’s more than not being able to accept your unique “beauty,” (because as an artist, I KNOW beauty is everywhere, not just in the magazines), change what you can for goodness sake. Face it; you really look like that. And it’s ok! Getting rid of a photo does not change what we see every time we look at you. We ALL look goofy at times; we all have a funky face we make when concentrating; we simply are all of this… and more. I truly believe that we remember and see in our mind’s eye our friends and loved ones at their most attractive. That is our perception of them as a whole person. We do not see them sans make-up one day and go, Oh! Are you kidding me? HIDEOUS!

NO! Because we ALL sometimes don’t look our best! Frequently. Am I wrong?
